REGION:
South Australia, 2008
VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING:
The grapes for this wine were sourced from a single vineyard that has been supplying Angove Family Winemakers with exceptional fruit for many years.
Continued drought conditions into the 2007/08 season resulted in exceptionally low water allocations for South Australian grape growers. Extreme care was needed to maintain canopy and fruit balance, keeping the vines healthy.
Harvest began early and the flavours ripened quickly allowing us to harvest the white grapes at optimum ripeness, keeping the fruit for this wine vibrant and fresh.
Following pressing, parcels were fermented in barrel using 'wild' yeasts for added complexity. Other parcels were fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel using carefully selected yeast strains to protect the lifted aromatic characters.
WINEMAKERS' NOTES:
Bright light straw in colour with some green hues, this wine has a lush ripe tropical fruit aroma. This is a fuller bodied white which fills the mouth with heady flavours of apricot, peach and citrus.
Angove Nine Vines Viognier is perfect for today's relaxed lifestyle and is the ideal accompaniment to grilled prawns with chilli and garlic or roast pork.

With pineapple chunk, Arum lily and pink melon flesh on the nose, this is undoubtedly an exotic wine, but it is one that controls its finish with zesty acidity. Bring on the spices, because this is an Asian fusion winner.
The Age - Ralph Kyte-Powell - 30.07.08 3.5 Stars
Viognier is popping up all over Australia. Its unique pungency is quite fascinating. This version from Riverland-based Angoves sums it up well with smells of stone fruits, flowers and potpourri, and it tastes smooth and juicy with a persistent floral fragrance and some firmness at the end.

Sydney Morning Herald - Ralph Kyte-Powell's Wine Picks 27.5.08 89/100
This viognier from South Australia shows the exotic varietal character that sets this grape variety apart. Reminiscent of stone fruits, spice and floral potpourri, it's smooth and succulent with a firm backbone and a persistent floral fragrance on the aftertaste.
Daily Telegraph - 10.5.08 - Jeff Collerson
Viognier, once found only in the Rhone Valley, began flourishing in the warmer southwest region of France. A difficult variety, it now thrives in SA's Riverland. This has lifted aromas of dried apricots with more of the same on the creamy palate, enlivened by a zesty, citrus-Like edge.
West Australian - 3.4.08 - Ray Jordan
Nine Vines Viognier 2007 - 86/100
"This is a pretty good viognier. Its pungent and powerful aromas of pineapple, peach and apricot immediately announce that this is viognier. A degree of complexity comes from the partial wild yeast barrel fermentation techniques. The palate has a light, unctuous oiliness but is surprisingly vibrant and lively with a nice, fresh acidity."
WBM 100 Magazine - April 2008
Nine Vines Viognier 2007 - 89 Points
"The ability of the Riverland to make some pretty decent Viognier is always a little outstanding - in a good way. Here there's some ripeness; oranges, apricots and some almost tropical mango notes, but still vibrant and fresh. The palate has supple texture and sweet fruit flavour, some sweetness too, a punchy combination of fruit weight and structural depth."

REGION:
South Australia, 2007
VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING:
The grapes for this wine were sourced from a single long term grower in the Riverland of South Australia. The soils are a rich sandy loam over limestone and this coupled with the abundant sunshine in this region allows this variety to ripen full and express its true varietal characters. 2007 was an early season with extremely low yields which resulted in intense flavours in the grapes.
These vineyards contain some of the oldest Viognier vines in the region and produce fruit that belies their warm, inland surrounds.
Following pressing parcels were fermented in barrel using 'wild' yeasts for added complexity. Other parcels were fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel using carefully selected yeast strains to protect the lifted aromatic characters.
WINEMAKERS' NOTES:
Bright light straw in colour this wine has a delightfully tropical nose with some initial apricot and intense melon and peach aromas. On the palate the combination of the different winemaking techniques shows through. Luscious stone fruit characters blend perfectly with the riper tropical flavours and linger long after the wine is gone. There is a delicate oak influence with some complex biscuit/cashew nut characters on the balanced clean finish.
